Okay so a few of my Writing 150 students had a discussion on this (and one of them could be writing a paper about it...I'm so excited), and well, I just do not quite know how I feel.
So I am posing the question to you. Is racial satire like this okay? What about the ignorant people who believe it to be true? What about those who are deeply offended by it? What about those who think it is funny? What about those who actually learn from it?
What do you think?
I don't think there's anything wrong at all with this type of racial satire. I mean, i understand that there are people who see these behaviors and think it applies to all black people but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Skits and jokes like these might make bigoted people feel more comfortable about stating what they really believe about other races and MAYBE from their it can be corrected.
