today, i was tagged in this note (below) on facebook. i was incredibly moved by the truth and poetry that dave martin's words possess, and i must urge you to read this. if you would like to know why this organization has become such an important part of my life, one that i mention often in my blog posts and daily speech, read these words, as they reflect the people, issues, and cause that AoR stands for, and that stand for AoR:
Inescapable
Their magnificence mesmerizes me to unseen and unheard of levels of majesty…
Inescapable, to bear witness to their creativity...utterly breathtaking
Inescapable…the way they laugh and love, in all their perfect imperfection, as they love life itself…beautifully put together in their group of like-minded young activist scholars.
Inescapable, the times we spend practicing our craft, engaged in intellectual discourse of the highest caliber…beset with tears and joy and sorrow, founded in our knowledge of the terrible condition that is the cause of our congregation, but nevertheless a splendid occasion when we bask in each others sagacious light.
Inescapable, the means by which our leader imbues us with her unique energy…creating a climate in which we all feel welcome and respected…Dr. Jennifer Stewart…she, who amazingly guides our interaction in a way only one who really cares can.
Inescapable, the look of awe that befalls each eye when we finally get it just right and the wonderful laughter as we make peace with our most common characteristic, one which encapsulates all individuals regardless of their “race”…our humanity.
Inescapable, the admiration I have for these people, born out of my deep respect for honor, talent, and wisdom…which each has shown to have beyond their years.
Inescapable, the melancholy emotions that engulfs me from the knowledge that I must part ways with these individual, separated by an entire country, and after only having had the privilege to know their company for such a short time. Crestfallen am I.
Inescapable, the truth…that I will always hold them dear…they are my friends…my peers…my strength.
Inescapable, the fact that despite my sadness I will never seek to escape the memories of my AoR family, for they are all that I aspire to be and I will forever sing their names.
Inescapable indeed, but indeed it is ok. Who would want to escape AoR anyway? Not I.

also, JOIN ACT ON RACISM! this ignorant and segregated world needs you.
Inescapable.....my very thoughts, too.
